Frequently Asked Questions
- Individualized treatment plans
- Q: “Am I a good candidate for implants?”
A: Ideally, you should be in good general and oral health, and have sufficient bone structure for placing the implants. A Premier Dental Implant specialist will determine if implants are the right choice for you by evaluating your medical condition and bone structure, and develop an individualized plan of treatment that best suits your needs.
- Q: “Am I too old for implants?”
A: Age is not really a concern when determining if you are a candidate for dental implants. The bone healing around an implant occurs with equal success in adult patients at all stages of life; at Premier Dental Implant Specialists, we’ve successfully placed implants in 96-year-old patients. You can however, be too young, as you must be done growing in order to properly place implants.
- Q: “What if I need more than just implants?”
A: Premier's dental implant specialists are experienced and adept at coordinating complex treatment plans that are seamless to our patients. We will ensure that you receive all care needed to ensure your dental implants are the perfect fit, such as root canal, orthodonture or tooth restoration.
- Affordable quality
- Q: “I've heard implants are expensive - Is there a value in doing it?”
A: Dental implants sometimes cost more in the short term, but are definitely the best long term value. While the initial cost to replace a single tooth with a dental implant is often higher than for a bridge, keep in mind the bridge will need to be replaced because of tooth decay, periodontal disease or wear. The average lifetime of a bridge is between five and seven years; most dental insurance coverage will only pay for a replacement after five years. The dental implant won’t decay, and with proper maintenance, can last a lifetime.
- Experienced professionals
- Q: “Why periodontists, and not oral surgeons?”
A: Periodontists are a small and very specialized group of dentists with extra years of training in gum disease and surgical placement of dental implants. Known as “the plastic surgeons of the mouth,” only periodontists have the training and experience to best care for your bite, gums, the underlying bone and surrounding soft tissues. Premier Dental Implant Specialists have amassed a lifetime of experience working with all these factors to ensure a successful implant.
- Q: “Why Premier and not a clinic?”
A: Premier Dental Implant Specialists are highly skilled and specially trained professionals who provide a level of individualized, personal care that is simply not available, or even feasible, in a clinic setting. Premier’s doctors have been working with dental implants in their private practices for more than two decades, and have treated thousands of patients, working in conjunction with both their general dentist and top restorative dentists to ensure the best outcomes.
- The best in patient care
- Q: “How long does the implant procedure take?”
A: This depends on the individual treatment required—sometimes it can be done in one day, or it can take from two to nine months after implant surgery to completely heal. Premier’s specialists will recommend the right treatment based on individual needs, allowing patients to follow a timetable best suited for them.
- Q: “Is this going to hurt?”
A: A local anesthesia will be given, so you won’t feel a thing during the procedure, and there is very little discomfort afterwards. Sedation is also available upon patient request. At Premier, our patients routinely call the experience comfortable and pain free, including the post-procedure recovery.
- Q: “What is the success rate?”
A: Our experience and training results in a success rate that’s more than 95%; defined as implants successfully integrating with your bone.
- Q: “How long will my implants last?”
A: With proper care, your implants can usually last a lifetime.
- Q: “Should I replace my dentures with implants?”
A: You may want to consider replacing your dentures for a number of reasons. Implants provide greater stability and do not need to be replaced like dentures. Implants are surgically attached to your jawbone and become a permanent part of your mouth. They will not slip, move or irritate soft gum tissue. Dental implants also minimize the erosion of the jawbone that normally occurs when teeth are lost or removed. Unlike dentures, which can wear down the jawbone and make a comfortable fit virtually impossible, dental implants look, feel and function just like natural teeth. They restore up to 90% of the chewing power lost with missing teeth, and promote confidence and comfort in eating, leading to a better diet and overall quality of life.
